Auntie Esther was a determined and ambitious young woman. After completing her basic education, she pursued nursing training, a profession she was passionate about. However, shortly after completing her training, she got married and became pregnant, which led her to put her nursing career on hold to focus on her growing family.
She met her husband, the late Mr. Atta Duah, and together they were blessed with seven children. Auntie Esther initially worked as a seamstress for several years before joining her husband to run a drug store. Their store, part of the well-known Asante Drug Stores, became a popular and trusted establishment in Koforidua.
Auntie Esther was a warm, loving, and jovial person who treated everyone with kindness, whether they were children or elders. She was outspoken, and her lively personality made her beloved by all who knew her. She was deeply committed to her faith, never missing church services, morning devotions, or prayer meetings. She ensured that her children were raised in the fear of God, instilling in them the values of faith and devotion.
As she aged, Auntie Esther's health began to decline, and she was unable to attend church as regularly as before. She spent some time in Tema with her children due to her ill health but later returned to Koforidua. On the fateful Saturday of 6th July 2024, she passed away at Koforidua Central Hospital after being rushed to the emergency ward following a sudden weakness that morning.
We will forever cherish the memories and the love she shared with us. Auntie Esther, your legacy will live on in our hearts. Due! Due! Due! Until we meet again, Auntie Esther, rest in perfect peace.
Tribute by Children
Our mother was a strong, resilient woman who always provided for us, ensuring that we had everything we needed despite the challenges she faced. She was our rock, and though life wasn't always perfect, she did her best to give us a good foundation.
We remember a confident woman who emerged from humble beginnings and made sure her children were taken care of. Mom was the kind of person who would wait up for you, no matter how late, just to make sure you were safe. She would walk to the street with her flashlight to buy kenkey and fish for you if there wasn’t enough food at home. These are the memories that have stayed with us, the ones we cherish the most.
Mom was deeply committed to her faith and instilled in us the importance of prayer and devotion to God. She was always present during our milestones, ready to care for her grandchildren, and she made sure they felt her love. Her ability to care for us, even after Dad was no longer with us, was nothing short of remarkable.
We hoped she would spend a few more years with us, and we were devastated when her health suddenly declined. Our hearts are broken, and we miss her deeply. She fought a good fight, ran a good race, and we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace with the Almighty.
Though we may not always have been united, and though life has had its challenges, we will continue to honor her memory and the values she tried to instill in us. Rest well, Auntie Esther. We will always carry your lessons with us, and though we are deeply pained by your loss, we will strive to live in a way that would make you proud.
Auntie Esther, nante yie. Onyame nfa wo kra nsie yie.
Tribute by Grandchildren
Tribute by the Grandchildren
As Grandma's oldest grandchild, I feel honored to be the one to write this tribute on behalf of all her grandchildren.
Auntie Esther was more than just our grandmother; she was our confidante, our teacher, and our biggest supporter. She was kind, cheerful, and always had a way of making us feel special. Her warm smile, caring heart, and the way she embraced us so lovingly will forever be etched in our memories.
Grandma was always there for us, through good times and bad. She wanted nothing but the best for her grandchildren. Whether it was cooking us special meals, cracking jokes to lighten the mood, or dancing to entertain us, she knew how to make every moment with her memorable.
Some of our fondest memories include how Grandma would allow us to stay with her during school mid-terms when our parents didn’t want us to come home. George and Jesse remember vividly how they would run to her when they wanted to hide from school, and she would protect them like a guardian angels. She was the one who always braided George’s hair, even when Mom and Dad were against it. She stood by us, no matter what.
When Junior was at Pope John, she would cook and bring food to him, making sure he was well taken care of. She taught us so much about hard work and perseverance. Grandma introduced us to farming, showing us how to weed and teaching us about the different types of crops. She imparted valuable lessons about our culture and traditions, which we will carry with us for the rest of our lives.
Her love and wisdom guided us, and her teachings are the foundation upon which we build our lives. Grandma, you were always there for us, and we were looking forward to spending more time with you. Priscilla was excited to come and spend the weekend with you, as she always did. Paaking was waiting for your call to ask for some call credit. Kelvin was eager for your next visit to his school, and Shantel and Emmanuella were planning to visit you soon. Emma and Jedidiah were also planning to come over and spend time with you, learning more about our culture. We all had so many plans, and it's heartbreaking that you left us so suddenly.
Your departure has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled. We will miss your laughter, your wisdom, and most of all, your unconditional love. But we take comfort in knowing that you are resting in peace with the Almighty. We will continue to live by the values you instilled in us, knowing that one day we will see you again.
"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7)
Rest in perfect peace, Auntie! You will always be in our hearts. Da yie!

In-Laws' Tribute
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing" (2 Timothy 4:7-8, NIV).
Auntie Esther, you were the best mother-in-law anyone could ever ask for. You were more than an in-law—you were our second mom. Your love, kindness, and generosity reflected the warmth of our own mothers.
We deeply appreciate all the times you spent with us, especially when we welcomed a new life into the family. You were always there, offering your wisdom and care through sleepless nights, nurturing our children as if they were your own. You were also the peacemaker, stepping in to resolve conflicts and restore harmony. We were eagerly awaiting your next visit, but unfortunately, death laid its cruel hands on you. Oh death, where is your victory? Oh grave, where is your sting?
A great pillar of our family has fallen, but we take comfort knowing that you lived a life full of purpose, touching countless lives. Now, your journey is complete, and you rest in the bosom of the Lord, whom you served with unwavering faith.
Rest in peace, Enobaatampa. You will forever remain in our hearts.
Tribute by Church
Auntie Esther joined the Methodist Church in 1984 at Wesley Methodist, Koforidua, during the tenure of Pastor Asensu. From the beginning, her devotion to the faith was undeniable. She was known for her commitment, her warmth, and her unwavering dedication to serving God.
Later, when she and her late husband relocated to Two Streams, they found a new spiritual home at Calvary Methodist, Adweso, which was closer to their residence. Auntie quickly became an integral part of the church community, joining the Christ Little Band, where she served wholeheartedly. She took part in church activities with great enthusiasm, always giving her best to support the growth of the church and the faith of her fellow believers.
As time passed, Auntie’s health began to decline, and she eventually moved to Tema to be with her children. Though her physical presence in the church was missed, her spirit and legacy of service remained strong. We had hoped she would recover and return to worship with us once again, but the Almighty, in His infinite wisdom, had a greater plan for her.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her faithfulness, her love for the church, and her commitment to Christ will continue to inspire us all. Auntie’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, and we are comforted in the knowledge that she now rests in the arms of her Creator, where her soul is at peace.
